What to do when booking your spray tan

Choose the right date

There are a few things to consider when booking a spray tan to ensure that you get the best possible results. Choosing the right day and time can ensure your tan develops properly and lasts as long as possible. If you have an event, the best time to fake tan is to schedule your spray tan appointment for at least one day prior. This will give the tan time to develop fully.

When choosing a time, it is best to ensure that you have no plans after your appointment as it is recommended to wear dark loose clothing and flip flops after a spray tan. This is recommended to avoid your tan rubbing off or any marks forming due to clothing that is too tight.

What to do before your spray tan

Shave 24 hours before

Ensure any hair removal such as shaving or waxing is done at least 24 hours prior to your spray tan as this avoids any irritation and will give your skin time to repair.

Exfoliate for your spray tan

The best way to exfoliate for spray tanning is to remove any dead skin cells and create a smooth, even base for the tan. This should be done the day before your appointment. He-shi Tan Remover and Primer uses natural fruit AHA’s to leave skin moisturised and hydrated while removing any previous tan.

Avoid lotions & perfumes

On the day of your spray tan avoid applying any moisturisers, lotions or perfumes as these products can create a barrier on the skin which can interfere with the tan and prevent it from absorbing properly.

Communicate with your therapist

At your appointment before the spray tan begins, it is essential that you communicate with your therapist. Tell them your desired colour and what you are aiming to achieve. It is also good to discuss any areas of your body you want them to avoid or focus on. This way they can choose a colour for you based on this and decide how many coats to apply.

What to do during your spray tan

Tie your hair up

During your spray tan ensure you have removed any makeup and have your hair tied back and off your face. Your therapist will direct you on which way to stand and turn while they are spraying. Avoid touching your skin as this will rub the tan away and can create streaks.

Wear the right clothing

After the tan has been applied, you will have to wait for it to dry this will usually on be for 5-10 mins before you can get dressed. It is recommended that you change into loose dark clothing to ensure you tan can develop evenly.

What to do after your spray tan

Activities to avoid

While your tan is developing it is best to avoid water and sweat as these can remove the tan in certain areas. Activities such as the gym, sports or swimming should be left until you have showered your tan.

Shower after at least 8 to 12 hours

It is best to leave your tan for as long as possible before you wash it off. Ideally you should leave it on for 8-12 hours as this will give the tan a chance to fully develop. When showering after your spray tan we recommend using a mild soap preferably one that is hydrating, avoid scrubbing your skin and keep the water lukewarm rather than hot.

Maintain your tan

Once you have showered you can then focus on maintaining your tan, moisturising is key to keeping your skin hydrated and your tan flawless. He-Shi Day to Day Gradual Tan is fast absorbing gradual tanner that will help hydrate your skin while extending your colour allowing it to fade like a natural tan.

Removing your tan

When removing your tan, the best way to exfoliate spray tan off is to use a tan remover. He-shi Tan Remover and Primer uses fruit AHA’s along with kind-to-skin ingredients that remove fake tan effortlessly without the need scrub so your skin feels moisturised and ready for your next application.
